Egyptian Themed Reception

Okay ladies, I really need your creative help. We've decided to have an Egyptian themed wedding reception. The date is 8/26/2006. I want it to be very elegant. Not Sphinx heads and golden cats on tables. At the beginning of the year, we'll be looking for a baker that can make his cake look like a pyramid. He's an Alpha so it goes with his fraternity as well. Anyway, I want smaller Egyptian touches like maybe some sort of symbol. And, I really want to do something the color gold. Wedding colors are sage green and champagne. The reception hall is huge. It's nice on it's own, but has lots of potential too.

Wow Hampton...that sound like a wonderful idea. I really like the cake made like a pyramid. You could be creative with your invitations too. Maybe a reproduction of a Anthony and Cleopatra painting. Maybe you could rent some pillars and place them around. Have square tables instead of round tables. Have white linen table cloths trimmed in gold and use gold plates with matching cutlery and glasses. As a centerpeice, use a small egyptian statue. You can even give scroll candle holders as favors. At my wedding, I am having a trumpeter play an introductory tune right before I walk down the aisle. Maybe you can hire someone to dress in roman attire and play something before your ceremony starts. Hope this helps.

You could also have your names on your invitations in hieroglyphics. Use ankhs in your decor as well, and research all the symbols used for you wedding.

The only help I can offer is to look at Michael Jackson's music vidoe...can not even remember the name of it but Iman starred in it....I am sure you can get some wonderful additional ideas from that. The theme sounds sooooooo wonderful. Ooh and I wanted to say HIII to Niquey -]

You ladies are wonderful, as always! I hadn't thought of using gold plates or incorporating it into the invitations. Charlottemodebe that was Remember the Time. It was a nice video. I think I know somewhere online where I may be able to see it. nlbostic, where can I find scroll candle favors? I didn't even know there was a such thing. I love the idea of hieroglyphics for the invites, maybe even the programs. I'm starting my research this weekend.

Ankhs are a universal symbol attached to ancient Egypt. We have several invitations with ankhs on them and andrinka symbols. Here are a few items that I love because they can turn almost any favor into an Egytian item:

Also consider animal print items for an accent. Just a few things here and there. Don't go crazy! Or a Animal print theme for the rehearsal or bachelorette parties.

Hampton, I saw the candle holders in a african bookstore here in NJ. I went online to see if I could find something similar. No luck. If I am in the area anytime soon, I will stop in and see if I can find out the manuafacturer of the candle holder. We can start there. It was really nice. Also, go to www.moodsweddings.com and click on cultural favors. They have some nice things with ankh symbols (cookies, candles, etc).
