Ceremony Romance
Posted on: 06/24/2008 05:01 PM
Ok Ladies... Need your opinions on this.
My FH wants to read a poem (with Kenny G playing in the background) that he wrote to me as I walk down the aisle. He originally prepared it for the reception before our first dance. I personally think its a brilliant idea. It's very different and I think it will be romantic.

What do you ladies think???

aaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwww. I think it definitely should be done at the reception. Much, much more romantic that way.

The thought is very romantic but I agree with Ginoue-at the reception.

As you walk down the aisle all eyes should be on you-including your FH. With the photographer & guests snapping pictures, nervousness, and all the attention it maybe hard to focus on what you FH is saying.
You don't want the attention divided. It would be just as romantic, if not more, at the reception. I could picture it now-you seated in the middle of the dance floor with your HUSBAND standing before you pouring his heart out. Sniffle. Sniffle.

cmt, I agree with shaz on the reasons not to have it done as you're walking down the aisle. However, if you don't want it at the reception either, have you thought about doing it sometime before you guys recite your vows??? I was at a wedding on the 14th where the couple wrote their own personal vows to each other and then also recited the "traditional" vows. The bride went 1st and when it was the groom's turn, he played a song that he wrote for her while he washed her feet (soooo spiritual and nice). So in your case, you could speak 1st and on FH's turn, he could play the song softly in the background while he reads his poem. Just a thought, HTH. Let us know what you decide.

You all are thinking some of the same thoughts that ran across my mind. I definetly want to hear what he is saying to me BUT, I most definetly want everyones attention, especially his, to be on me as I walk. (After all this planning, hmmm)LOL.
Keithsbride, I love the idea of including it at the vows section of the ceremony (sweet). Shaz and Ginoue I'm seeing the visual that you described and I'm loving it. It will add a nice touch to the reception before our first dance. HMMMM... I'll let you know

It could also be done just before the garter removal. You two will already be at the center of room and you'll be seated. He could either stand or kneel while reading the poem and when he is done he can proceed to remove the garter.

I think it being done at the ceremony would be just as romantic...its different from walking down to music, but you WILL have people weeping for real...I also think its a BRILLIANT idea and I vote for the ceremony....Either way would be fine....but I think that the impact of the poem would be greater if you were walking in slowly to your new husband to his personal words of love.....

FH and I have come to a decision. (finally)
We are going to leave the poem in the ceremony for me to walk down the aisle, but we decided to wait until I reach the bottom of the stairway (half the song) before he starts his poem. That way, I will still get all of the attention I SO DESERVE, and also we will be able to see each other and make complete eye contact. I really think its going to be so romantic.
