First Timer
Posted on: 08/11/2005 04:18 PM
Hello All,
I am so glad that I found this site. I am 37 and my fiance is 35. I have 2 children and he has one. He lives in the Nations Capital. We will have our wedding in Ohio next May. Since it feels like I have waited a lifetime to do marry I have lots of ideas and thoughts on how I want our special day to go down. He is receptive to all of them but I want him to feel like this is his day too!!! Since he isn't from the area the venues for the reception and ceremony were definitely influenced by me. I presented options that I would be happy with that were within our budget. Any suggestions!!!!

In my experience as a wedding consultant the men have been led to believe that they just show up, say I do and that's that. You need to make him feel that this is his ceremony as well as yours. That his friends and family will be there and his style and yours should be combined to continue the theme of two becoming one. Find some things that you two can combine and go from there.
Sometimes you have to close your eyes to see clearly.

It is important to make your FH feel like a part of the planning process. It took my FH forever to warm to the planning idea, now that he has I am over joyed! What I did was put together files for each category, i.e. wedding reception sites, honeymoon sites, etc. and gave them to him to view at his leisure. He didn't get back to me right away, but when he did it was wonderful. All the best in your planning!

I agree with Rhoda, you should present him with several potential spots and venues, not "a spot or a venue"..it implies that YOU have decided and he definitely had no input...this is the last thing you need him to be thinking
