New to Game
Posted on: 12/19/2007 06:30 PM
Hello everyone this is Shun from Miami, I just wanted to say that I just got engaged. The wedding is going to be Aug 16, 2008 and our theme is going to be Autumn in the Summertime since we couldn't have it in November.I was actually looking for some more ideas for my first and hopefully last wedding. Tips, ideas, and advice welcomed.

Thanks, I'm planning my own wedding and so far I'm on a roll as far as preparation. I will probably use a wedding planner for the last two or three weeks just to make sure that everything comes together perfectly. Let me ask you a question...Are your fiancee's getting involved with the wedding beyond the tuxedos and the money? My fiancee tells me that he wants to be completely involved, I think he's gonna get on my last nerve. I keep telling myself to relax and go with it but I just don't know. HELP PLEASE.

Hey there Shun and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I love the theme! My husband (I got married last November 2006) was not involved in the beginning. He did help me choose the colors and then got involved right before we got married, when everything was already done -- LOL!!!!

That's just how some men are, not to worry though, count your blessings because your fh wants to be involved -- happy planning!

Welcome Shun. Be glad your FH is showing interest now instead of later. During my initial planning my now husband had a "just tell me when to show up attitude" but the closer it got the more he started throwing in his thoughts & ideas. That's when it's really nerve racking. When you've already established something and signed contracts, you're not trying to hear any "Oh by the way, I was thinking......". Nope sorry, too late!! LOL

Welcome ..Shuntrice! My FI is allllllllllllll up and through EVERYTHING! And you know what I thank GOD for him. He even told me that he wanted to stay with me the night before and go with me to the hall the day of so he can be involved and help with setting up to ensure everything is the way WE want it ...and he don't want to depend on our team to be there early enough to set up.

So we decided, that we will go early enough (and we cleared it with the venue) to set up and be able to rest up/eat or whatever a few hours before everything starts ...there are two dressing rooms with complete bathrooms there and when I go in to get dressed ...I wont come out until it's time for me to walk. I figured it will be cool for him to see me in sweats then transform to a princess :) (Queen-to-be for the day :))

I guess you all are right, I would rather him be involved than sit back and let me do all the work. Right now its too far away to tell whether or not he's serious but I'll see if he actually mean it in a few months. Me on the other hand already have a giant portfolio type binder filled with just about everything we'll need for the wedding but when I try to show it to him he's busy and never gets around to it....

Congratulations shuntrice on your recent engagement. It sounds to me that your FH was saying that so you could think that he wants to be involved. But that's how they are. There are some things that will interest them and some won't. They couldn't care less that we're carrying around loads and loads of file folders, but when you really need them, they'll be there. Allow him to be as involved as he wants in the planning of the wedding. After all, it's his wedding too. Should he not look interested in certain aspect of the wedding, it's okay too. Don't guilt him into listening to the details because honestly, he won't really be listening, but would pretend to be attentive.

As for ideas for your Autumn wedding, girl, you've come to the right place. Give me a little time to think about this and I'll come up with a few ideas for you. BTW - what are your colors? Have you decided or are you open to ideas on this one as well?

Welcome my newbie sister and happy planning.

Welcome to the board Shun! Congrats on the recent engagement! As the ladies said, be glad that FH wants to get involved now. I too have the big ring binder of ideas (I got engaged last Christmas) and FH's eyes tend to glaze over when I mention guest lists and colours!! Having said that, he chose the colour theme and he's really excited about choosing his suit!

You just need to understand that the guys are not always going to get excited at wedding things like we do. Just enjoying planning the first day of the rest of your life!!
