Hubby's ring
Posted on: 12/13/2007 12:38 PM
My husband and I have been married for a little over a year. He insisted that I buy him a very plain wedding band because he teaches and plays instruments. Well I took a look at the band recently and the band is all scratched up. I want to buy him a titanium band to withstand his routine at work, but he won't hear of it. He never takes the ring off (only long enough to let me clean it). I shined the band and cleaned it which helped a little, but you can still see the scratches. The band has our wedding vows inscribed on the inside so the ring is very dear to him. If the band looks like that after only a year -- my goodness what will it look like after 5 years or more?

How many of you ladies DH or FH have jobs that will cause wear and tear on their rings?

My brother-in-law does construction/home improvement... and he has two, it's like 2 watches ...a work watch and a sunday's best. And both can be VERY nice rings! And TRUST if I see FH tearing up the ring I brought (while at work) he will get a M-F ring! :)

Not me. My FH is a CPA, but he does enjoy playing his acoustic guitar to relax. But I understand what you're saying and I'm not trying to make light of the subject, but maybe he will be more open to discuss the subject after intimacy. Girl, I know you know what to do to convince the man (lol). He's seeing the romantic side of it and also, this was the ring that was blessed during your weddng ceremony. Maybe he would be more open to the idea if it could be blessed once more by your pastor privately in the pastor's office. Tell him that he could keep the ring on his right hand if he doesn't want to part with it so.

BTW -Rhony your story of marrying your daughter's father after being apart for 10 years is AMAZING (not that I would EVER want to do that ..LOL) ..at the same time I admire that. And you too came back to eachother how you left one another ..means neither one of you didn't have to accept children that weren't in the union. How often do you think of that and smile at the amazement of "What He Has For You -Is For You"?

Ginoue, thanks -- sistah will be working her magic real soon -- LOL!!!

Turiya, I'm still amazed at how awesome God is. It was truly God, I walked away from the relationship 11 years ago and vowed that "if God wants him (hubby) in my life then He will have to do something with him!" Believe me if you asked me in a million years if I thought we would end up back together, I would've said no. Well God moved and my hubby is not the man he was 10 years ago -- so when I think about "What God Has For Me Is For Me" it truly has a special meaning. The fact that we didn't have to accept any other children was also a part of God's special plan for us. I guess I should just try and understand how special the ring is to him and just leave it alone.

(Yall pray for me -- I'm still trying to get it together -- LOL)

DH is a carpenter by trade and doesn't wear his wedding band to work. After spending what he did on my ring, he wouldn't settle for just a simple band from me regardless of his profession. He wanted to be "iced out" also. I thought about buying him two bands but jokingly he said "Don't worry baby, I know I'm married even if I don't wear the band". I thought about it for a while questioning whose benefit would it be for and decided to save myself some money by passing on the second ring. A ring never stops somebody anyway from pursing what they want to pursue.

My FH works for the city doing manual labor so he wants 2 rings, one basic and one with diamonds in it.

Please believe I'm getting both and he better be wearing one of them at all times, lol. No being that he does comedy and has been on TV a lot of women ummmm "approach" him and I want there to be no questions. If he has on a ring they can't claim they didn't know he was taken when I walk up and snatch the weave out of their hair.

I know that's right. My Dh was like, I want princess cut diamonds just like yours and I want the same carat weight. Well, he got one out of the two, princess cut. I'm not into keeping score but he ain't put in half the work I did to earn the same carat weight as me..LOL

I will probably surprise him and get the exact same wedding band and have my pastor bless it (as Ginoue suggests), so that he will have a spare ring that isn't all scratched and banged up.

I like the idea of a work ring and a "Sunday's Best"!
I think you should provide him with a Sunday's Best too Rhony....let him wear and cherish his original ring!

Anyhoo, my DH works with computers so he spends some time fixing the hardware and lifting boxes, but not manual labor (but he likes to make me think he does...but I know beter)....he has the diamonds too....I mean...he just HAD to be so daggone glamorous too....For the whole wedding planning, he was chilling but when it came to the ring, he was such a groomzilla I just dragged him to the Jeweler he got my ring from and told him to pick in a certain price range....of course he went glamorous on me, and got the white gold ring diamonds in a with a little yellow gold....I mean gosh!

Great idea Turiya and Bumble, I always wanted him to have some diamonds like me, but he is such a plain guy he doesn't really like jewelry -- unlike his wife, cause I love myself some jewelry! Anyway, the idea of a Sunday's best ring sounds real good.

My dh is an electrician. I thought about getting him a titanium ring until the sales lady told me it cannot be cut off in case of emergency. He worked at a job before we got married and for some odd reason, he had a reaction to something and his hands swole to twice their regular size. I just thought about that when i bought his ring, so i just went for the white gold. He's getting his sunday best ring for our one year anniversary (at least that's what he thinks, I plan to suprise him with it on our cruise in june)

Sweetnlow thanks for the heads up about the titanium ring -- I didn't know that, I don't want any problems.

I will just go and find something really nice for him and surprise him with it. I'm going to take my time and shop around and choose this gift with much care.

Now Bumble, I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of bling on a man's ring. I'm still looking at choices for my FH's wedding ring. We were jocking the other day and he said that the reason he got me such a huge rock on my finger was because he didn't want anyone to be confused of the fact that I'm spoken for. And on that note, I'm looking for a very special diamond ring for him as well that will say "Hands off, he belongs to only me"!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!

As a matter of fact, I bought the exact same wedding band with our vows inscribed on it. I kept checking the prices of the rings, but they never went down. But my honey is worth it. I had my pastor bless it. The "spare" is on his dresser in the box. He still wears his original wedding band with the scratches on it. He has the "spare" for whenever he gets ready for it.

Good Rhony!

Ginuoe you are right, but I should have known better because my Dh wears rings anyways...he has both classrings from high school and college, ans a few other rings his dad bought him, so he would switch them from time to time...Same with watches....so I don't know why I was so surprised that he went with diamonds....Then when I showed him 2 versions of a same rings, he picked the one with the bigger stones of course.....either way he has great taste and I love it:) He gets so many compliments on that ring.
