Preparing for the Reception
Posted on: 10/08/2007 08:11 AM
Hello Everyone,

I'm getting married in July 08 in Jamaica. The wedding will be very intimate. We plan to have a reception for our family and friend a month after the wedding. Please give me some sugguestion on how to plan a reception after the wedding and where it should take place.
Thank you

I am doing the same thing as well.

I am looking to have the reception at a large hall or a nice sized club in the city. You could also have it in a church hall if you so desire.

I am planning to do hors douvres, a cake and maybe a signature *bleep*tail. Nothing too elaborate.

Maybe you can play a picture slideshow of the island wedding up on a wall at the reception so that people can see you in your dress and all that.

Welcome to the site, Msvegan! Where do you live? What kind of budget do you have in mind for the reception?

Great question Plat.

I had my reception at a restaurant, which was a lot cheaper than renting an event hall. It was held upstairs in the "banquet room". The restaurant had a dance floor and a bar (which we didn't use since we didn't want any alcohol at our reception). The restaurant allowed me to choose my linen and they allowed me to decorate. It was just wonderful!!!! Just another option for you to think about.

Hello IvyPrincess,
I really like your Idea. Did you mail out your invitations before you left for your wedding or how did you handle the guest list. When and where are you getting married?

Welcome. I have a friend that had her reception at a hotel, I think it was the Sheraton. She had booked the whole pool area and served Caribbean foods. Mosty hors douvres (jerk chicken wings, mini meat patties, fried bananas, can't remember it all).
