Old School Music
Posted on: 09/18/2007 07:48 PM
Ok, so FH and I will have an old school feel to our reception - you know like back in the day house parties! Need music ideas from the 80s to early 90s (slow and fast)that would keep you on the dance floor. Reggae also! Now I'm from Chicago so I will definitely have some house music! Here are some songs so far:

Fire and Desire (Rick James and Teena Marie)
It Takes Two (Rob Base)
Jack Your Body (Steve "Silk" Hurley)
Get Up (Fast Eddie)
All I Do Is Think About You (Stevie Wonder)
Put It In Your Peace Pipe (BT Express)
Trapped (Colonel Abrams)
Move Your Body (Marshall Jefferson)
Hey Sexy Lady (Shaggy)
Brickhouse (Wet Wet Wet)
You're All I Need (MJB and Method Man)

BP Reception Entrance: Friends (Whodini)
Mr. and Mrs. Entrance: Got To Give The People What They Want (O'Jays)
Garter Toss: Brother's Gonna Work It Out (Willie Hutch-The Mack Sndtk)
Bouquet Toss: I'm Every Woman (Chaka Khan)

Come on ladies! What'cha got?!

Alright now Tewright1! I forgot, Al Green's Let’s Stay Together is the last dance song (that and/or Love Is Gonna Last). And we got to have James Brown's Big Payback for the steppers! Add in some Get Down On It, Da Butt, and Push It and baby we are doing the thang! Oh, for my Michael Jackson fix, PYT is on the playlist also!

My wedding party is coming in off If This World Were Mine for the ceremony. And Pam I couldn't remember the words for "I want to Thank you Heavenly Father" for the life of me - kept humming the melody trying! And soon2bmsj, you are dead on with the Patti!

Anyone know the name of of the reggae track with DMX?

I think it's called "Here comes the Boom" With Sean Paul and DMX. Is this the one from the Belly soundtrack?

Girl how could you forget the Words!!! That was the jam. I used to always say if someone changed the arrangement, it would make a nice wedding song. Here are the words:

I want to thank you
Heavenly Father for shining your light on me
You sent me someone who really loves me
and not just my body
he keeps me happy so very happy
he loves me
I don't know how to be
It's been a long time since I had someone who loves me
I owe my thanks to Thee

I know it could not happen without your love
Ooh without your love

It took a long time for it to happen
but I knew those nights I prayed
that you would send me someone who's real
and not someone for play
I kept the faith
and I didn't worry
my nights grew longer than the days
until one day
it really happened
You sent true love my way
I know it could'nt have happened without you
ooh without you

When the time is right
He'll fill your life with love and care
believe
and He'll be there
just do all right
don't do no wrong
and the keep the faith
for love will shine his light your way
Thank you Father
for shining your light on me
I prayed long time
for it to happen
I did because I believe
He makes me happy
so very happy
I don't know how to be
It's been a long time
since I had someone who love me
I owe my thanks to Thee

I know it could'nt have happened without you
ooh without you
I know it could'nt have happened without your love
ooh without your love

(my nights were long and blue, until he sent me you)

Hey I forgot which one of our VIBride sistas was looking for a fun recessional song, but here it is!!!!!!

"I'm a work in progress, God is not through me yet"

Thanks! Girl I LOVE old school hip hop. And for that reason you already know Brown Sugar is like one of my favorite movies. Hip Hop AND Taye Diggs? I felt really spoild!

And how about my mom used to make me listen to George Clinton and them when I was little and I hated it. Now it's like I hear a PFunk song and I get geeked.

How about...and I'm not sure if this is the right name for the song,

Freak- By George Clintion and/or Parliment Funkadelic
Oh and I forgot I ain't no joke- Rakim
AND this is like my favorite disco joint:
Boogie Night- By Heat Wave.

My grandfather loved this song

OHHHH and
If I Ever Lose this heaven, A love of your own, and
School Boy Crush- Average White Band
Those boys were BAD! You hear me?

It's hard for me to accept that the 90's is now considered to be old school. LOL

Heres a few songs I havent seen on the list yet along with a few bubblegum Reggae jams from the 80's

Sophie George - Girlie Girlie
Third World - Try Jai Love
Force MDs - Tender Love
TS Monk - Bon Bon Vie
Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie

And for some cheese:
Eddie Murphy - Party all the time
Tisha Campbell - Push
Jasmine Guy - I just want to hold you

speaking of Old School Music... Ladies I thought I was in the 80's this morning. On my way dropping the kids off to school, there was a guy behind me that, if I didnt know any better, I would have said that was Kool Moe Dee. LMAO. Girls, he had the sunglasses and the same leather hat. I just couldnt believe it! he was driving an older Buick though. :-)
