Wedding Colors
Posted on: 09/10/2007 05:21 PM
Hello Ladies,
I'm pretty new to this site and am really enjoying all of the great advise you guys give. So I waated to see if you guys could give a couple of suggestions in regards to my wedding colors.
I recently finalized my wedding colors and was going to go with Ivory, Toffee, and Ruby red. The gown I'd chosen was Ivory with Toffee colored lace and chiffon and was to be accented with diamonds and rubies throughout. The FH's tux was going to be all Ivory with a ruby red pendant in the center of the tie and the groomsmen were to wear Ivory tuxes with ruby red ties. The bridesmaids were in ruby red dresses....BUT!!! just the other day I went to a bridal store with one of my bridesmaids who is looking to get married next year and ALL of my color plans have now changed!!! I'm now going with a totally different gown and my new colors are now Champagne and Black. I think I'm going to stick with these colors, but does any one have any ideas on some good accent colors that go with Champagne and Black??? My friend suggested red, to give it that POP. What do you guys think?

You are very close to my wedding color, ours are Champagne, Ivory and Apple red. I am wearing an Ivory and champagne strapless gown and my bridesmards are wearing Apple red. I think that it looks great together I am now trying to pick flowers.

Welcome to the site, Niki! You'll love it here!Have you tried on either gown to see which one you like best? Once you do that, it should make it easier to choose your colors.

The original gown that I selected was featured in Bride magazine and is a wopping $7500!!! Yeh.....So I know a seamstress that makes gowns and she advised me that she could do the dress and even make it prettier than the one shown. I was a little nervous even though I have seen her work and I know that she does an excellent job, but I want the dress to come out right for our special day. I think I'm going to stick with the dress that I actually had a chance to try on, since I already know how it looks on me and I wouldn't want any mishaps with the other dress... Do you think by going with the champagne and black, if I had the brides maids in black strappy dress and the groomsmen in black that it would be over kill....I've found some great BM dresses and tuxes in black but I don't want it to look like a funeral.

Niki, you may want to have the bridesmaid wear champagne. This would give the wedding a "warmer" effect. With so many people in the wedding party wearing black, it may come off as as overkill.

Welcome niki! My gown in ivory and gold/champagnish as well (actually color is called ecru). My BP is wearing gold and claret, which is a dark red. I think you can still do the red with the campagne and black. Bill Levkoff has some nice red/black dresses such as this one:
and this one:
or even this one in champagne and black:

Thanks MrsKeepUp...Ok girls here's the bridesmaid and groomsmen attire. I actually checked out some pictures of some other wedding where the entire bridal party was in black except for the bride and they were actually really nice. I think that I'm going to stick with this and just use red as an accent color. So the colors will be Champagne, Black, Gold, and red as the accent. Tell me what you guys think.
Groomsmen ( these will be in black with ruby red vest and tie)
and bridesmaids ( these will be in black with a champagne and red corsage)I really like this dress because my bridesmaids vary in size and I feel this dress will be flattering on each one of them because of the material.

Niki I've seen weddings where entire wedding party wore black and it was gorgeous. Very modern & contemporary. As long as you use a strong contrasting color such as the red to accent, it won't look like a funeral. The wedding I saw had fuschia & orange accents. The reception linens were pure white with fuschia and orange floral centerpieces. The favors were the little black truffle boxes with orange & fuschia ribbons with black polka dots. You can definetly pull off champagne, black, gold & red but you just have to be creative and keep in mind whatever FEEL OF THE DAY you're trying to create. Whatever feel you are going for should dictate your style choices and the amount of each color to use.
The pics of your dress choices aren't showing up. Can you retry or post the link?

Okay I can see pics now, not sure why they didn't show before. I like the BM dresses you chose. The chiffon material really softens your color choice.

And here is my dress....the picture does not show the actual color of the dress, it's really darker than this one shown.
and my FH will be wearing a tux similar to the grromsmen but his vest and tie will be the same color of my dress ( Champagne )
