Child Attendants

Does anyone know the standard ages for flower girls and ring bearers?
Love lights even the darkest of paths.
What Fire doesn't destroy, only makes stronger.
Even when you don't know; God knows. I will be still and let Him do His thing.
Alone in the world; but always in the company of the Lord.

I am not sure if there is a standard age, my ring bearer will be 8 and my flower girl will be 4. We wanted a younger ring bearer, however the one we chose has done it before and was not nervous and did very well.

I'm sure there is a "standard age" out there but children come in so many shapes and sizes these days its hard to say. In my MOH's wedding one of the flower girls was 8 but she was just as tall as me and wore a larger size! I am 5'2-1/2" and 125 lbs but still!

I say just go with who you want to do the job regardless of what etiquette or anyone else says.

I have a God-daughter and a grand-niece that are two. They are both as independent as they want (and mature acting for their age). I would really like for them to be in the wedding.

I saw in a post (I can't remember which forum) where someone used a wagon for the flower girl. I was thinking of painting a wagon gold (one of my colors) and decorating it.

In the ceremony they will be put into it on a bed of flower petals and their brothers will each pull the wedding wagon down the aisle (oh yes best believe that they both will be throwing petals out; for them it will come naturally). What do you think?

I have also heard of using a wagon to pull the child participants down the aisle as well, and I think it is a lovely idea. I have read different age brackets for flowergirls online, one site says between 3 and 7 years old, another says between 4 and 8 years old. I think what matters is that you know the child, and you know her level of maturity. Whether 2 or 5, if the girls are mature for their age as you have stated, I think they will make fine flower girls, esp. since they will be pulled in a wagon. My FH and I are not having any children in or at our wedding, so this isn't an issue for us. Just be aware, sometimes children act differently when they realize that there are 100's of people looking at them, and at such a young age, you cannot be sure what to expect!

The rule of thumb is that the ring bearer must be of an age to understand and follow directions. It falls between the ages of 3-7 years old. If it is your child, however, you could have someone push him or her in an ornate stroller, if that is your choice. Flowergirls are between 8-10 years old. These days, children grow so fast and they change in nature. They get taller and develop at such a fast rate. Junior bridesmaids 11-14. Hope that answered your questions.

Good luck to you
