My Bridesmaid Dresses
Posted on: 07/30/2007 09:15 AM
Here is a picture of my bridesmaids dresses (envision them pink with a green ribbon)

http://www.alfredangelo.com/index.cfm/fuseAction/collections.productDetail/productID/64fef8ae-84fb-4fbb-8859-b200aa2a56a5/categoryID/772f03c9-de43-4942-bfa0-da77e21ebd65

I haven't thought about the look for their bouqet or shoes or anything else yet.

I don't really know how the dresses fit into the theme I'm trying to go with though, lol. They just liked them and so did I

Those dresses are really nice. The colors are kind of similar to my bridesmaids dresses. Here are Ivy's bm dresses

Ivy I think the tea length dresses for your BMs would be perfect for your jazz theme brunch.

before I was even thinking of the jazz brunch theme I wanted tea length dresses, just because they seem more fun and little less formal. I want folks to have fun at my wedding and reception, not be uncomfortable or hot.

This is why I went with tea length as well. Plus they are more likely to wear them again.

Future, I'm having a formal wedding as well, but I don't know about letting them chose their own dress. It would freak me out. This is what my bridesmaids will be wearing. I will have 8 of them.

I love the dress. great color. I also allowed my girls to choose there own dresses since I was not able to pay for them and I had girls ranging from 5'1 to 5'11. I picked 10 dresses of the same color and fabric and they went at it, some chose other dress but color ad fabric all coordinated well. If I knew how 2 upload to the site i'd show them 2 u.

Can't see the pic until I get home (work filters uhhhh!). Its not as bad as it sounds. There are some guidelines: same designer, same material, same color. We were going with Alfred Angelo, but after dress shopping this weekend with my MatronOH we are going with Bill Levkoff. So the guidelines are:

Bill Levkoff
European Red Satin (for the BM and one JrBM)
European Champagne Satin (for the other JrBM, MatronOH and MOH)
Long

I have 6 MOH and BM total plus 2 JrBM. I selected 6 dresses to choose from, but they are welcome to pick another from the website within these guidelines!

I didn't realize it was that many until yesterday when I was talking to a coworker. It'll be 20 total, not including hostesses and ushers (2 each)!

1 MatronOH, 1 MOH, 4 BM, 2 JrBM, 1 FG, 1 BR,
1 BM, 5 GM, 2 JrGM, 1 RB, 1 BB

I did the same thing because my BM were different shapes, and I know they can wear the dress again. Same for their shoes and hair. The color was all the same....At my brother's wedding, his wife had us BM's wear the same dress, which was a okay looking dress, but because of our different shapes, even after alterations we really looked weird. Unfortuantely, I will have to throw that 140.00 dress in the trash.....I would never ever wear it because it simply isn't my style....We gave her our $$ and she went out and bought us expensive strappy shoes that no one could walk in because the heel was high, and with the broken AC plus summer time, our feet were sliding forward when we walked (I wish you could see the DVD). One girls feet were so broad (though the shoe was her size), she ended up bringing a different (no so cute) gold show that she actually could walk in. Another girl with recent toe surgery (i.e toes issues) had to do the same, so we all wore different shoes....I think that because the dresses were very long, we should have been able to wear shoes in the same color, but one that was comfortable.....Same thing with the hair, we all had to wear the same hairstyle with a bun to the side. Well my hair is cut in a style where its short at the back so after I let her stylist do our hair-even after all that gel, I saw peices of hair sticking out the back of my head when I saw the pictures! We were running around so much I had no time to check my hair-so I was pissed....and I had reservations to everything but I said NOT ONE WORD because I was NOT about to rock the boat and I think she deserves to have everything she wanted on her wedding day....I am saying all this to say that as brides, we should consider what is most flattering for the party to wear, and if you want them all to wear the same everything, really really think about a dress and hairstyle that complements the party as a whole...My BM's didn't look the same, but letting them choose their own hairstyle and choose their own shoes and dress style let them be comfortable, and they looked good from start to finish!

Amen to that, Though its the Brides day we want our pictures to look good and our attendants to enjoy our day w/ us. Not 2 b praying for the end to take off a unflattering dress and dreadful shoes. Some of my girls choose there own hair styles but we all agreed to get our hair done together so no 1 showed up w/ a scarey do..LOLOl
My only requiremnet wad french manicured nails and feet. And it was beautiful all the haters had to apologize for thinking my BM would look disorganized...My son was my patron of honor and wore a Tux w/ vest and tie matching the Chocolate theme..

The dress that I've posted above was voted on by all of my BMs. They had a choice of 3 dresses and I advised them that I'd like them all to wear the same dress, but to go to the bridal salon first and try it on to see how it looks. My original color was burgundy. They all love the dress and they way it fitted them. At our meet-n-greet, they decided to go with Latte instead of burgundy. I was extatic that they picked that dress because I was secretly rooting for it. As far as their shoes, I told them that everyone will wear sandals of their choice as long as it's dyable in Latte as well. Hairstyle is also their choice as long as it compliments my them of "Classic Elegance". I don't know how I would get them to vote my way, if they've picked the other dresses or if they voted for all 3. I think my MOH might have something to do with the outcome, eventhough, she's denying it vehemently.

I LOVE the dress yours bridal party had choosen, its very elegant and they can definately wear it again.
Is your MOH wearing the same as the other ladies?
Im planning m cousins now and her sister is giving her the blues about not having a tottally different dress from every1 else. Its the same color but hers has a short train on it. Lucky for me my son was my MOH so this wasnt a issue for me but my cousin is goin thru it.
Any suggestions.?

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure which gown she will pick. She just e-mailed me. She said that she narrowed it down to these two and wanted my opinion on which one she should get.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

She said that she was leaning towards the second gown posted. I like it too.

As for your cousin's wedding gavinswife, the MOH should have a gown different than the BMs, that way they could easily be differenciated. Please understand that she's not trying to be difficult per say, but rather stating her feelings on the matter. Maybe you could post the gown that you've selected for your cousin's BMs and I'll see if I could match a gown close but different enough to suit your cousin's sister.

More than willing to help out.

You all have made great choices, and I am very happy to hear that you all are considering the feelings of the bridesmaids, giving them options WITHIN LIMITS, AND you are still managing the overall outcome. In all fairness to my new SIL, there were some problems from the get go. Her original idea was to get them all made, but the dressmaker procrastinated so much, my SIL wasn't willing to push it, so she went (kind of at the last minute) to find some dresses, and from my understanding, I think she did the best she could. Plus she was living in TX, 2 BM were also in TX, one in detroit, one in DC and the other 3 in FL. I think that she spent so much time trying to do something "so original" and special and one-of-a-kind, she ended up not putting in enough time to plan, and taking the help she was offered as far as imput in the execution of her grand ideas, she ended up doing it all herself. Thats the risk of managing something from far away, and you hire someone who SEEMS like they have it all together but they really don't. I told her that she may want to consider getting the dresses from a "one stop shop" like Davids Bridal or Alfred Angelo, since its in everyone's city, and people could have options and get enough time for fitting etc, but she was very opposed to it, and even my brother was like we don't need help.....I never really offered help again. I wasn't hurt, because I understand its THEIR WEDDING, and I needed to step back. I was still surprised to see some very obvious loose ends pop up on wedding day that could have been covered-especially since they were absolutely convinced they could manage themselves. Long story short, sometimes you have to keep things simple as possible when it comes to BM's, but be flexible enough so that it works out for everyone as best as possible. You only have one chance to get it right, and after that you only have the pictures and the DVD to really see if it all came together. Photos hide some things, but a DVD picks up the expression on everyones faces...for instance...I saw the DVD, and we looked pretty, but we didn't seem happy because one the AC was broken, our shoes were too high, so we all walked down the aisle...well hobbled down the aisle, and you cannot hide that feeling....and 2 girls dropped out of line because their feet were sliding from the sweat in those too high shoes, one girl almost fainted from the heat and had to sit and grab a fan....another girl stumbled because of her toe surgery, and uncomfortable shoes......just a little tidbit from a recent Bride and more recent BM perspective:)

I let my BM pick out their own dresses. They all have different body types and I wanted them to choose a dress that they could wear again to a Christmas or New Years party. My color is apple and I think they appreciated that I thought about their feelings. My matron of honor is pregnant so she has a maternity dress but it's knee length. One of my maid of honors are wearing a knee length dress and the rest are floor length. I can't wait to see my pictures.

My bridesmaid dresses were Alfred Angelo also. Style 6343 in Burnt Orange. Both my MOH's wore dresses by Dessy in Kiwi color that were similar to each other but much different than bridesmaids. Bridesmaids all had tea length dresses, MOH's had floor length. My bridesmaids all loved their dress so no vote was required. I left my MOH's to decide on their own what they wanted. My only requirement was the dresses had to compliment each other. As far as hairstyles, I said do what you want just no hard curls, braids, or ghetto fab styles.
