Here is a sample I did for the wedding program I'm making for the wedding. Future, I thought you might want to see this since you are doing yours, too.
Looks good Bama! I have an extra page but I was able to work it out from the info you gave and this other chick's site. Hey, let's share it with the other ViBrides!
Bama... I justlove it! I saw something similar on a post up in here and was searching high and low for it...I want something like that too. I ended up ordering a sample from satinbow.com,
and place cards
Hoping and praying that I get the sample and can order in enough time for my wedding.
Can't believe how talanted you ladies are!
I'm cutting and pasting the instructions I typed up for myself. I'm anal, I know. If anything confuses you, also check out the links future posted here in this topic -- they should fill in the gaps. And of course, let me know if I can answer any questions.
LAYERED WEDDING PROGRAM BOOKLETS
Materials & Tools
OVERLAY: 100 sheets 8½ by 11 cream translucent vellum, pre-cut 5½” wide by 8” long, no printing on it (will equal 200 sheets).
PAGE 1 - COVER PAGE: 100 sheets 8½ by 11 cream lightweight cardstock, pre-cut 5½ wide by 6½ long, to be printed singularly (will equal 200 sheets).
PAGE 2 – “WEDDING PARTY”: 100 sheets 8½ by 11 cream lightweight cardstock, pre-cut at 11” wide by 7” long. (Will do 2-column print on this page which = 5½ wide by 7” long, and use paper cutter after printing to separate two sheets – will equal 200 sheets when finished).
PAGE 3 – “CEREMONY”: 100 sheets 8½ by 11 cream lightweight cardstock, pre-cut at 11” wide by 7 ½ long. (Will do 2-column print on this page which = 5 ½ wide by 7½ long, and use paper cutter after printing to separate two sheets – will equal 200 sheets when finished).
PAGE 4 – “ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS”: 100 sheets 8½ by 11 cream lightweight cardstock, pre-cut at 11” wide by 8” long, which = 5 ½ wide by 8” long, and use paper cutter after printing to separate two sheets – will equal 200 sheets when finished).
BACKING: 100 sheets 12x12 medium-weight dark brown cardstock, SELF cut at 6” wide by 9¼” long – will equal 200 sheets when finished. This is enough to make sure backing shows on sides and bottom, and leaves enough room to fold flap over the top.
RIBBON: Cinnamon colored satin, grosgrain or organza ribbon. Need to find out how many yards needed for 200 program bows.
FABRIC SCISSORS: Cut ribbon with neat edges.
HOLE PUNCH: Measure even space between holes in center of cinnamon backing and cut into fold. Then use holes in backing as guide to punch holes in cover and inner pages.
STAPLER: Staple program inserts to keep from sliding out of place on sides.
BONE SCORER: Use to make neat and even crease/fold in cardstock flap that folds over the program.
PAPER CUTTER: Use paper cutter to cut the lightweight cardstock into two separate pages, and to cut the cardstock backing.
Step-by-Step Instructions
STEP 1: Using bone scorer, fold about a 1-inch flap at the top of the cardstock backing.
STEP 2: Evenly mark two spots in center of flap on the cardstock backing and punch two holes with hole-puncher.
STEP 3: Print each section of program in batches by size. Make separate stacks for each batch, and place in order of use. Should have 6 individual stacks of paper – (1) vellum overlay, (2) cover page, (3) wedding party, (4) wedding ceremony, (5) acknowledgements, and (6) backing. Should also have stack of pre-cut ribbons.
STEP 4: Drawing one item from each paper stack, create individual program inserts with everything but the backing. Staple the very top of each corner of the individual program insert.
STEP 5: Place stapled program inside of the fold in cardstock backing. Use the holes already punched in cardstock backing as a guide to hole-punch the program inserts.
STEP 6: Thread ribbon through holes and tie a bow. Neatly trim edges of ribbon
I ordered the sheer vellum paper from paperandmore.com. The have a large variety of cardstock, and they will pre-cut it for you. Also, I "borrowed" the paper cutter from work, and I will be cutting some of the other sheets myself. If you don't have a paper cutter at home, you can determine what sizes you need the paper cut, and take it to Kinkos for them to cut it.
Bama, you did an OUTSTANDING job on the programs!!!
MsBoston, the sample you have below with the table names is the exact style I'm doing for our menu cards, only blue & lime green ribbon.
House, I know how you feel, I was torn between two styles and decided that I would give the wedding party the progam/cd favors as part of their gift and the other program style for the guests. I have a template & instructions for the fan programs if you'd like it.
and if I'm not mistaken I have template for the layered one as well...
Rosie, thanks for making my pic smaller. It was HUGE, and I didn't know how to resize it. I'm glad you like the colors! They are my wedding colors -- cinnamon, espresso and champagne. Since my wedding is in October, I wanted the colors to feel warm and fall-like.
Hi purplesunshine. The V is a watermark that I did in Microsoft Word. It actually appears beneath the other text on the page. If you decide to do this and need some help, let me know. Good luck!
Bamabride . . . Thank you so much. I am so excited, I can't wait to begin making my programs. Thank you again. Your programs are gorgeous, I printed the picture and I have showed everyone I know.
Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
All I can say is wow ... im really learning a lot from you all... the programs are beautiful and I would love to make some for my wedding ... I did not think of doing anything like this until now.
Welcome to the sisterhood cathymurphy and sensationablyhappy!!! All of us are doing some type of DIY projects. I'm doing table centerpieces, Save-the-date cards, the layered wedding programs that you saw. I'm also doing the ringbearer's pillow, Sugar-cookie cake favors, and pewmarkers. I still have some other things in the works, but I'm having fun!!!
You're making these programs too...I understnad cutting the pages down to size but I don't know how to set up the document itself. Any suggestions or a template I can follow?
Welcome to the board cathymurphy and sensationablyhappy! If anyone needs templates send me your email. I have a few I can send to you to play around with.

I most certainly am cathymurphy. Added to the fact that I'm getting married next year, I'm a professional Wedding Coordinator and so far, I have 6 other weddings for next year. Thank God for my FH, he helps out a lot. So very hands on!!!
Hello ladies, I am new to this forum. Just wanted to say that this program is absolutely amazing. I want to attempt to create this for my February 2008 wedding. How long did it take you to finish this?
Also, do you have an samples/intructions for invitations?
Welcome djimonsmom! I don't have any instructions for invitations but check out www.cardsandpockets.com. They sell the paper for really nice pocketfold invitations.
I forgot how beautiful these layered invitations were!! Now that I'm actuallly thinking about my invitations, these seem like a good idea. Any ideas how I can incorporate my Caribbean Valentine theme into these DIY layered invitations?
I am not sure if I'll be able to do these - they look complicated - but I'm going to give it a go!!
