Models of Color
Posted on: 06/15/2007 11:01 AM
Has anyone seen a site that has bridemaids dresses modeled by women of color? It is so hard to narrow things down when the dresses are on people with skin tones 100 shades lighter than my girls! Ok, so one of my MOH is white/black (but the black doesn't come out until she opens her mouth) but she's wearing a different color anyway.

My color scheme is burgundy/gold/ivory. The burgundy is my concern. It looks so different in the different materials. Having a hard time choosing the material I want them in.

I KNow! It is the reason why we started vibride.com. I still have a hard time getting photos. I request them all the time. I don't carry gowns cause there are not that many photos of black women in all our shades. From could pass to deep silky chocolate. So if you find any PLEASE let me know!

My suggestion to you to go to a fabric store and pick a material that you may like or either take one of your bridesmaids to try on dresses.

Ok Rosie I've been doing an exhasutive search on this because I have a BM and MOH that are out of state. Plus my bridal party is about 5 different shades of black! All I've found so far are some pics on the David's Bridal website such as this one (close to my color too!).

That's an amazing idea house! nothing like fabric on skin to get a real idea. Pics sometimes just don't do justice.

Thanks FutureMrsKeepup! It pays to see ourselves in clothes. Especially when shopping online and you can't try it on. But I guess no two bodies are alike anyway... no matter how similar they might look!

House you could also get your girls color printed. But it won't matter will it if you choose blue for your wedding and your BM is yellow/orange. Would you change your color scheme??? I doubt it! lol

Honestly though, there aren't too many colors that don't look good on black women. Depending on how dark or how light you are there might be some shades you might want to stay away from, but they are few and far between. Our skin look good in pastel colors, our skin look good in royal deep colors, in bright colors, basically everything....we off the hook!...

Alfred Angelo only uses 1 black model. Isn't it the same chick in all of their pics?

Askalot - you are too silly!

Give the man a little credit. He used 2 in BM, about 5-6 in bridal, 1 in mother, and 1 in FG. (YES I COUNTED!)
