Flower Decorated Cakes
Posted on: 04/04/2005 02:48 PM
I recently purchased the monogram cake topper and simply love (link on this site). My mom keeps telling me something about edible flowers. Does any one know what kinds those are. I tried to find info and keep hitting brick walls. My wedding is in May 2005. Need your help quick!!!
Married 5/27/2005...Glad it is all over!

You were overlooked! you can get edible flowers at a bakery or pastry shop. They are handcrafted flowers made from icing, marzipan or some other cake decoration. Delicious. You can also opt for real edible flowers on your cake and you can get those from your florist!

Most brides have exactly the same questions. I will reply to old messages for that reason. Also when there are a lot of posts under one topic, brides will get more information, but not post their own question.

I love the idea of edible fowers on your wedding cake. It is beautiful and when they are real, they are an unexpected treat. Before you say gross or what the...? Did you know that broccoli, cauliflower, and artichokes are all flowers? Also the spice saffron is the stamen from the crocus flower? Capers are unopened flower buds to a bush native in the Mediterranean and Asian nations. So we eat them all the time. lol

WOW Rosey....I never really realized that bit of information...thank you for that crash course...mind you when I am cooking broccoli I like to leave them whole so Blaine and Blaire (my kids) can think they are pretty and be encouraged to eat them without me threatening their lives if they don't eat em (lol)....I've seen capers on the foodnetwork but have not tried them yet. I appreciate this wonderful little lesson Rosey :-)

I absolutely love flowers. I haven't found a cake topper that I like that is affordable. If I don't find anything by the time I order my cake I will opt for the initial topper "H" with some edible flowers to go with it.

Well if you'll remember on another thread I posted a pic of the weddign cake that I wanted and it is covered in flowers...like Rony, if I can't get the flowers I will use the initial but I will try my very best to get the flowers even if it means using ones that are not edible...I just love flowers so much I guess. But I will use the real ones at the very top, cause that part is rarely eaten

Actually, I won't be using a cake topper. I'm going to have fresh flowers(roses)on each layer of my cake. I do like the intial cake topper though.

I am still deciding if I want a monogram cake topper or just flowers on the top....Or we might get the initals on the side of the cake....
