I read about an idea for cakes as centerpieces but I can't seem to find any pictures of displays like that. Does anyone know where I could find displays of something like that?

Niquey has some great examples of how they usually look. I have seen a few in the latest Martha Stewart's Weddings Magazine too-so you may wanna pick it up....its has a pretty picture of a cake on it that is a centerpeice when you read the story....
Also check out your local fine bakery to see some of their own examples of cake centerpieces....they are usually 6-8 inch rounds, but of course you can make it as big or small or as tall as you like! The ones in the magazine I saw are soooo elegant....
Very cool Idea too!
I LOVE this idea! As someone who NEVER gets a slice of the wedding cake this idea is a HIT with me. Would it bee too distracting I wonder? Could we resist finger tasting?? hmmmm
Well according to the article I read it's supposed to be cheaper than doing a big cake and adding sheet cake. Especially if the the cake is iced simply and the florist does the decorating with flowers. I'm going to ask my baker about it and if it is indeed cheaper I'll have the baker coordinate with the florist.

Karenita1, I know that 8 inch cakes are very cheap but you can actually get some 6-inch cakes made instead, thus saving you even more. Definitely check on it, and remember to compare your local bakery's quote to another quote from a larger store like Winn Dixie, Publix, WalMart/Sams Club, or whatever large grocer is in your area....Also, if you are using a caterer vs. a caterer who works for the hotel, get a quote from them!
