Hi,Rockwell.Welcome to the site.I live in Florida. One of the other Vibride sistas,Cinamin1,lives in Florida, too.Let me know if I can help.Publix has beautiful cakes but I'm not sure of the price.Walmart sells beautiful cakes also. They start at $110 for a 3-tier cake. But I think some of the more elaborate cakes are $130 and up.

Welcome to the boards Rockwell, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding and move! I'm not familiar with the Florida area, but I sure wish I had a WalMart or Publix in New Jersey. You can't beat those prices. The wedding cake I want is $400 and it is a very simple one.

Welcome Rockwell,

I live in Atlanta and will be getting my cake from Publix and it will cost $200. I went to several bakeries and requested the same cake and the price doubled. I have heard very good things about Publix cakes. I also spoke with one of the actual decorators at Publix and she would be willing to make my cake a little cheaper and she will do a tasting for me also.

Hi Rockwell, welcome to the site. As Platinum stated, I'm a (south) Florida native, as well. I agree with everyone here...Publix cakes taste great and the prices are even better. I'm getting my cake from there and its a 4 tier serving 150-175 people @ $300. You should give them a call. I'm sure you can get married on the beach. I'm not familiar with Manasota Beach, but on Ft Lauderdale's beach you can have your ceremony there for free. There might be a fee (like $25-35) depending on the City's rules/licensing. I'm also having a seaside ceremony. If you need anything, the sistahood is here to help. Congrats on your engagement.
I'm a married woman as of December 2, 2006.

Rhony, there are a couple on Rt 22 and 1 & 9. Here's the link of the sites in NJ. I think #1, #4 & #5 are the easiest for you to get to.

Thanks guys for the tips. When I lived in Florida they always had fake displays of their wedding cakes and I remeber thinking they were really pretty for a grocery store bakery.I don't want to spend like 400 bucks on a cake jeez haha We still need to find otu which beaches we can marry on before we decide but there are like 3 or 4 right by where I am moving back to and I have a lot of memories from when i lived there and it would be cool to have our wedding there :)

I just moved here in Sept of last year myself. I'm starting to find my way around. In the beginning it was overwhelming. Coming from the Bronx it was definitely a culture change.

Hi there...I live in Florida and here are some things I have learned in the last month since I got engaged....Publix cakes are relatively cheaper....I had a friend get a 3 tiered rolled fondant white cake, for about $200-$250 dollars...Then she just spent a few more $ for some flowers from the store that she had someone one put on the cake...and she had close to 200 guests!....Also if you do the reception outside, you maight have to get rolled fondant because the regular frosting doesn't keep well in the heat-and I know that rolled fondant cakes are those pretty designer ones...but they tend to be at least a dollar more per slice...I also learned that if you get a good idea of how many people will be attending, you can ask the baker to include some faux layers into your cake to add height (not sure of what this would cost though)...but I do plan to keep it simple by getting a plain white cake (not sure of how many layers I need) and just doing the decorations myself or showing one of my friends how to do it for me(like flowers, fruit, etc)....I took a Wilton cake decorating class last summer at Michaels Craft store...it cost me about 20 dollars- and it was 4 weeks....

Sounds awesome.I've never been big on cooking and I think the less stress on planning all of this, the better! haha I am excited about the Publix cake idea.I showed my fiance the pictures last night and he agress and wants one with shells on it.So that's is deffinetly where we may end up getting our cake. Thanks for everyone's advice on this :)

No girl you are not! LOL!! Before moving to the Eastchester section of the Bronx, I used to live on Walton Avenue & 151st Street. When we were kids we used to hang out around Yankee Stadium all the time. What a small world!

My cake is from Publixs. They were at a Bridal Show and we enjoyed their cakes and presentation. I heard they were good too. We're getting one that serves about 150-175 then we're getting a sheet cake that will stay in the kitchen. It was less expensive that way instead of buting a really big cake. They deliver and set up for you also.
