Where do you start? First, define the details of your dress. Is your dress strapless? Is your dress backless? Is it strapless AND backless? Is it a halter style dress? Does the waist fit snuggly around your torso? Is the fabric lacy, smooth, crepe or silky?
By answering these questions, you will narrow down your bra search so that you know specifically what type of bra you need under your dress. For example, if your dress is strapless and made of a smooth silky fabric, you should look for a bra that is strapless or has removable straps and does not have any extra seams or laces that might show through the smooth surface of your dress. Another common dress style is one that is both strapless and backless, and fitted around the waist. For these types of dresses, a nice option is a long line bra. The fabric of your dress also plays an important role in determining what kind of bra you need. If your dress is smooth, sheer or a light-weight silk, you will want to find a bra that is as smooth as possible with very little lace. One option for this type of dress would be a bandeau strapless bra like the Hanro 1823. If you're looking for the support of an underwire, try a smooth cup such as the On Gossamer 3411. If your dress is lacy, or made of a heavy fabric like taffeta having a smooth bra is not as important. You can even wear feminine, lacy bras like the Carnival 423 under dresses with heavier fabrics, because the bumps of the lace will not show in your dress.
