Why Register?

The basic idea of a registry is to register for items that you will enjoy and that fit with your lifestyle. We all have different tastes, and like different things. Lists that tell you what you should register for are useful for one thing though. They are useful in the sense that they can give you an idea of what is available. Of course, your tastes may differ from the suggestions, and you may find that your interests aren't covered on such lists. In such a case, it is certainly appropriate to make up your own list of needed and wanted items!



Where do I Register?

Many couples getting married register gift ideas at one or more stores. Supossedly it will make it easier for guests to find an appropriate wedding gift. The gifts chosen will cut down on returns as they will suit the couple's tastes.

Registering with a mega department store is a good option. I suggest adding it to your local store list. Online, family and friends who are far away or have access to the net will find it way easier to buy the things you need. Local stores are fantastic for family members who prefer to touch and see what they are gettng you.



How do I announce my Registry politely?
As far as etiquette for Wedding Registries are concerned, the main "rules" state two things. Wedding Registry information may be included in a shower invitation as the intent of the shower is to "shower the bride/groom with gifts". It is inappropriate though to include Wedding Registry information in the wedding invitations themselves. The reason for this is that gifts are not to be expected nor are they required to be given for the wedding.



When Do I Register?
Before registering, I recommend that couples keep a few things in mind before going through the process. These guidelines should help to keep registering more fun than frustrating, and you will have a better idea of what you should actually be registering for. Simplifying the process before-hand will allow you to go through the process with fewer mishaps, and will ease the stress of the process.
